The City of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures asked Groupe DDM to produce a natural environment management plan to help it achieve sustainable development. The first step was to gather ecological information by characterizing the city’s wetland areas and identifying potential wildlife habitats. An assessment was performed and environments of interest for conservation purposes were identified using a multi-criteria analysis method inspired by key documents approved by the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques. The areas for conservation were connected by a web of potential ecological corridors, creating networks based on current ecological knowledge, zoning requirements and the City’s guidelines for future land development. The management plan contains decision-making data (statistics, descriptions of environments, species at risk, etc.), supported by a collection of maps.
